Tennessee Insurance Continuing Education Requirements

  • Life and Health Agents

    • Complete a minimum of 24 approved credit hours for that license type per each two-year license term, including three hours of ethics continuing education training.

  • Property and Casualty Agents

    • Complete a minimum of 24 approved credit hours for that license type per each two-year license term, including three hours of ethics continuing education training.

  • Public Adjusters

    • Complete a minimum of 24 approved credit hours for that license type per each two-year license term, including three hours of ethics continuing education training.

  • Multi Peril Crop Adjusters

    • Complete a minimum of 24 approved credit hours for that license type per each two-year license term, including three hours of ethics continuing education training.

  • Combination Multi Peril and Life and Health or Property and Casualty License

    • Complete a minimum of 48 approved credit hours for that license type per each two-year license term, including four hours of ethics continuing education training.

  • Long Term Care -LTC

    • Agents wishing to sell Long Term Care are required to take a one time only 8 hour Department of Insurance certified course

    • Each license term thereafter each agent must complete a 4 hour Long Term Care Partnership CE course that is approved by the department.

  • Flood Insurance Training

    • An insurance producer who sells flood insurance may satisfy the minimum training and education requirements by completing a 3-hour course related to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

  • CE completions are submitted electronically to SBS the next business day after a passing completion is acquired.
  • License term is every two years on the last day of the licensed agents birth date.
  • Online courses
  • Independent Self-study
  • Classroom Study
  • Non-Monitored Open Book Exam
  • Must answer at least 70% of the questions correct to pass.
  • Up to 12 CE credits can be carried over. Carryover Ethics credits will only be counted as general credits and not extra ethics credits.
  • Courses may not be taken more than once in each renewal period.
  • Certificates of completion are available as soon as a course is completed with a passing grade. Certificates should be printed and kept on file for 4 years.
  • Limited lines agents
  • Public adjuster that have been licensed for less that 1 year.
  • Licensed agents who have had their license continuously since January 1, 1994.
  • Non-resident public adjusters who have passed all the requirements in their home state, as long as the home state has similar qualifications then the agent is not required to complete the CE courses for Tennessee
